  1. Peel and mince garlic.
  2. Heat 1/2 a cup of olive oil in a large pot (high-low to low-medium heat), and heat the garlic until golden and fragrant.
  3. Add the tomato paste and 4 cans of tomatos and bring to a simmer. If adding red pepper flakes add them now.
  4. Cook uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add a pinch of salt, the remaining 1/4 cup of olive oil, and basil if you are adding that.
